Six former Friars’ basketball greats were honored yesterday at the Phoenix Center during the Inaugural Father Duenas (FD) Basketball Jersey Retirement Ceremony. Arguably the best players ever to come out of the centrally-located championship high school, No. 23 William Stinnett III, class of 2004, No. 12 Vince Estella, class of 2002, No. 30 Stephen Baza, class of 1985, No. 21 Chris Fernandez, class of 1986, No. 10 Eduardo A. "Champ" Calvo, class of 1974 and No. 33 Dr. Ricardo Eusebio, class of 1972, all had their numbers retired, which will hang from the rafters time immemorial.
The Guam Chamber of Commerce, along with the Marine Corps Activity Guam, awarded the school with the most toys collected this 2016 Christmas season to Father Duenas Memorial High School on January 23, 2017.
Junior golfer Brentt Salas, 16, got first and second place in recent golf tournaments held in Hawaii. Salas is currently Guam’s number one national boy’s junior golfer and the island’s second overall men’s golfer after Louis Sunga, Guam National Golf Federation President George Benoit said.
