On September 19, 2015, the NJROTC Phoenix Company participated in the annual International Coastal Cleanup. The Phoenix Company has partaken in the event for 12 years now and the attendance of cadets keep rising.
The attendance, for the past two years, has been 30 to 40 cadets, however, this year 54 cadets attended the cleanup. This is more than 60% of the company cadets.
As this is a voluntary event, the cadets arrived as early as 5:30 a.m. to prepare for the cleanup. C/SA Ranie Jay Ubaldo, a first year cadet, describes the event as fun and very beneficial for our island’s environment. He says, “With the contribution of all the cadets, we were able to maximize the amount of trash we collected as well the amount of time we spent cleaning our assigned location.” The location only took around an hour and a half to complete due to the success of the total attendance.
