Four Cadets Graduate NJROTC Northwest Leadership Academy (7/1/2017) By Phoenix Company Public Affairs Four Cadets from the Father Duenas Memorial School NJROTC Phoenix Company recently graduated from the Northwest Leadership Academy hosted at California State University’s Maritime Academy (CAL MARITIME) in Vallejo, California. Cadet Commander Raine Delos Reyes, Cadet Chief Petty Officer Zachary Belanger, Cadet Petty Officer First Class Dayton Damian, and Cadet Petty Officer First Class Ethan Storie experienced 7 days of intensive training including Physical Fitness Tests, Drill and Ceremony, and Team Building designed to mold them into better leaders for the NJROTC program as well as active, involved citizens. Additionally, these cadets were also given classroom instruction on topics such as Ethics and Leadership 101, taught by Naval Science Instructors from around the country. “It was like a whole different life.” said Cadet Damian, who was experiencing his first time away from home. “I think we were definitely challenged to our limits, both physically and mentally.” added Cadet Storie. Cadet Commander Raine Delos Reyes was appointed as Platoon Commander for Purple Platoon during the event, a prestigious appointment and the highest level of achievement any Father Duenas student has achieved in any Leadership Academy.
