A Small Donation Goes A Long Way!

In the Philippines, nearly twenty percent of the population is hungry. Poverty is demoralizing. Education is one way to end this condition. But truly, how can a hungry child learn?

We are doing something about it. FEED25 is social justice project that assists the Ateneo de Manila University efforts to feed hungry children who attend Ateneo sponsored public schools. FEED25 is designed by FDMS and Academy of Our Lady of Guam students with guidance provided by FDMS, Academy and Ateneo faculty and coordinators. For further information see, www.FEED25.org.

FEED 25 has three main objectives:

1. To teach students how to design and implement a social justice project for other students around important social and Catholic based principles;
2. To provide donations to feed malnourished children attending Ateneo sponsored public schools in the Philippines
3. To provide a FEED25 model for other schools in our region and nationally to benefit social justice endeavors, using our platform and our student coordinators as “teacher trainers” in the years to come.

FEED25 provides a carefully designed model for changing systems that remove barriers to poverty and meaningful access to school. Given our close ties with Ateneo, we believe we can learn how to develop systems that change communities.
One barrier to learning is hunger. Ateneo has designed and supported kitchens that produce highly nutritious meals for the cost of approximately 25 cents per meal. Our students will be asked to donate $10 as a Lenten sacrifice – which is the equivalent of 1 or 2 fast-food meals (a $6 fast food meal will feed 24 kids).



Our objective is to raise $812.50 per class, which is the approximate amount to feed 25 students for 130 days (or one school year of feeding under the Ateneo program).

Students will be provided a FEED25 envelop to return on March 16 with their donation. Collection will be on March 16 and the collection will be offered at Mass on March 17. All donations will be sent to and accounted for by the Ateneo de Manila University, a trusted and internationally known institution for more than 150 years.
