Thank you for your interest in FDMS! Our Shadow Day and Open House programs give prospective students the opportunity to spend time on our campus and get an inside look at our programs and student life. These are not mandatory parts of the application process, but they are great opportunities to spend some time on our campus in the company of an FD student, allowing you to make an informed decision on whether or not to apply to FDMS—or attend should you be accepted. We highly recommend this visit for prospective applicants.
Shadow Day Program
Shadow Day pairs eighth grade students with current Friars for a day at FDMS. As a visitor, you will spend time attending classes and participating in student activities with your host.
The FD school day is 7:50 am until 2:50 pm. Students participating in our Shadow experience are asked to arrive on campus no later than 7:40 am. Shadow Day ends at 2:30 pm, and students must be picked up by 2:50pm.
Shadow Day Dates: *Outside of scheduled dates, prospective families may contact our Admin Office to schedule a Shadow Day
[2025-2026 Dates Pending]
Open House Program
FDMS hosts an annual Open House where participants get to tour the campus and meet faculty and students. This three hour visit will allow all visitors to gather information, ask questions and see school facilities first hand.
Open House Date: [2025-2026 Dates Pending]
FD’s Shadow Program is a terrific way for prospective students to get an inside and accurate look at what it is really like to be a Friar. Shadowing is not a mandatory part of the application process, but it is a great opportunity to spend some time on our campus in the company of an FD student.
Current FD students guide their 8th grade shadows throughout their morning class schedule. School representatives will be available also to answer any questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I sign up? Complete the Reservation form located on the left menu bar on this page or email us directly at fdms@fatherduenas.com requesting to participate in a Shadow Day or Open House.
Q: When should I arrive at FD? The FD school day is 7:50 am until 2:50 pm. Students participating in our Shadow experience are asked to arrive on campus no later than 7:40 am. Shadow Day ends at 2:30 pm, and students must be picked up by 2:50pm.
Q: What should I wear? Shadow students do NOT need to wear school uniforms, but they should wear appropriate clothes for school (no tears/holes in clothing, no inappropriate wording on shirts, no zories, etc.).
Q: Should I bring anything? Students may bring a small backpack with writing materials if they would like to take notes. FD discourages all students from bringing valuables and large sums of money to school. While snacks will be provided, students may bring their own lunch, or some money to buy lunch. Students at FD have a wide selection of food items to choose from. A typical lunch with drink at FD costs about $8.00.
Q: Can I choose my host student? Students will be randomly paired with a current Friar. If there is a preference to be paired with a family member, friend, or student with similar interests as your son, you may let us know ahead of time, and we will do our best to accommodate the request.
