Introduction into Literature
The course will cover literary selections with universal themes such as challenges and choices, moments of discovery, the lighter side, perspective, and visions of the future. Each unit focuses on a specific genre, which includes short stories, drama, folk tales and mythology, nonfiction, poetry, and epic. The course also integrates instruction and practices for important grammar, language and writing skills.

World LiteratureThis course of study deals with the standards in regards to 10th Grade World Literature. Students will be exposed to literature, writing, vocabulary, and other literary forms from all geographic regions of the World. They will be introduced to literary work of famous and influential writers of their era. They will incorporate essential literary skills in the framework of the book’s literary selections. |

American Literature
This course if offered to all juniors and covers some of the most important selections of our nation's literary canon. Students will be exposed to all eras and genres of American Literature. The course encompasses literature, writing, speaking, grammar and vocabulary building. The course will also provide some preparation for the PSAT and SAT tests.

British Literature
This Senior Literature course will cover British and other world literature so that students will be able to interpret the influences of historical events on many literary works, as well as to increase skills in analysis, composition and speaking. This course will highlight and explore the themes, events and connections that make up British Literature and traverse different cultures throughout literary history.

CompositionIn this course, students will exercise their writing skills through various composition exercises and activities. Various modes of writing will be covered in order for students to improve reading comprehension, writing ability and overall communication. Emphasis is on constructing grammatical sentences in standard written English, on developing unified paragraphs employing appropriate principles of organization, on developing papers employing appropriate principles of organization, and upon improving skills in critical reading of fiction and nonfiction prose. This course also emphasizes clarity, accuracy, and effectiveness in written English with a focus on research techniques, correct documentation and citation formats, and argumentation. |

AP English LiteratureAP English Literature and Composition is designed to provide you with the intellectual challenges and workload consistent with a typical undergraduate university English literature/Humanities course. The course will examine several essential questions: How does literature help us understand ourselves and others? How has writing become a communication tool across the ages? How does literature reflect the human condition? How does literature express universal themes? This course includes an intensive study of representative works of both British and American writers, as well as works written in several genres from the sixteenth century to contemporary times. As this is a literature and composition course, you will be expected to use every assignment that involves writing to practice your best composition skills. Composition assignments will include: statements, paragraphs, time writes, and formal essays (personal, expository and argumentative). No matter the kind of writing assigned, your best composition skills should be practiced. |
