The Spanish Honor Society or Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica was founded by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese in 1953, for the students of North American secondary schools; and this chapter is due to the efforts of many students, old and new.
What began as friendly gatherings among some of them to extend their desire of learning and to practice the spoken Spanish Language outside of the regular classroom instruction has formed what is now called the San Vitores Chapter for the Spanish National Honor Society.
This Chapter was established on September 9 of last year at Father Dueñas Memorial School. The mission of the Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and to promote interest in Hispanic studies. Being a member of the Spanish National Honor Society is an opportunity for learning deeper about the Spanish language and culture but it also has its benefits.
Each year the Society contributes more than $150,000 in awards to its members in forms of college scholarships or student travel. The Society’s Motto is “All together” or “Todos a una” Our colors are: red and gold. Our insignia and seal are those of the mother association.
